Remembering the Past, Honoring the Present: Tribe Arts' Film on the Partition of India.
The 75th anniversary of the partition of India is here, and the British Asian Arts community is taking the opportunity to reflect on the lasting impact of the event on their lives and identities.
In 1947, the British Empire withdrew from India, leading to the creation of two independent countries: India and Pakistan.
The partition was accompanied by violence and mass migration, as Hindus and Muslims were forced to leave their homes and move to either India or Pakistan based on their religion.
Many people of South Asian descent living in the UK were affected by the partition and were forced to leave behind their homes, businesses, and possessions. The legacy of the partition is still felt in the relationship between India and Pakistan, as well as in the lives of people of South Asian descent living in the UK and elsewhere.
To mark the 75th anniversary, a special film and tour called “The Ode to Partition” will be released and conducted by British artist Tajpal Rathore and Poet Samran Rathore of Tribe Arts, respectively. The film and tour will cover the complete history of the partition and its ongoing impact on the lives and identities of those affected by it.
